What's one goal that could change everything for you in 2025?

Did you know?

Studies show that "43% of people expect to fail at their New Year's resolutions by February, and only 9% successfully achieve their goals by the end of the year."

Let's make 2025 the year you join the 9% who crush their goals and thrive - starting now!!

As a leadership, wellness, and mindset coach, I spend the majority of my time listening to, and thinking about other people's goals. And now, as I launch into 2025, I'm spending more time than usual thinking about my own goals. And the truth is - I am HUMAN TOO! I also get overwhelmed. In my excitement, I think I've given myself a bit of goal setting overload. Ever been there? Well for me, if there's one thing I know, it's start where you are, and remember what has always worked. Let's take a walk together. Check out my top 3 tips for setting goals that actually stick, then let's celebrate together in December!

1) Find Your Why

It is what it is. If you don't know WHY you are doing something, you are significantly less likely to achieve it, especially if things get tough. Consistency is key, and the only way we can stay committed and consistent when the initial excitement fades is to have a strong Why. When we first decide to make healthy changes there is so much motivation and that motivation seems like it will translate to commitment, but it is inevitable, eventually, no matter how motivated we felt when we made the decision, we will ultimately face other temptations. We will feel tired. Life will throw other obstacles at us. The same is true for any other goal we set. So how do we push through even when the initial excitement fades?

Get to the root. WHY does this goal really matter to you? How will your life change when you achieve it. Who else does it impact, if anyone? What is motivating you to want to make the change?

For me, for example, fitting into a bikini is not enough of a reason to avoid the drive thru at Chick-Fil-A. However, keeping a promise to myself (Integrity), doing something hard that most people would otherwise quit (Perseverance), and seeing my results (Achievement), do motivate me. And when I do these things, my confidence soars! I did it for me!! Not "the 'Gram" - well, sometimes the Gram, but mostly me! lol.

So ask yourself, what are my values? How does this goal align with my values? How will I feel when I achieve it? If you can answer WHY, you're moving in the right direction.

2) Embrace the Full Picture

Often times we think of our goals as something that live in a vacuum. We think we can bottle up all our excitement and initial motivation, and as long as we have enough conviction, we will reach the goal. But not exactly. Let's say your goal is to read more. And perhaps you even have a really compelling list of great books lined up. Will that be enough? Chances are it won't be. When will you read? How will you ensure you can dive into your fantasy fiction un-interrupted? What's your normal bedtime routine, and what needs to scoot aside to make room for this new habit? Reaching a goal requites a bit more planning than we often anticipate. Ask yourself - what changes do I need to make in order to set myself up for success?

3) It's Not All Or Nothing

Momentum is real. Especially when it comes to creating habits that ultimately lead to reaching goals. Sometimes you have to take your goal, and break it down into more manageable chunks. One of my goals is to take a full mental health day once a quarter. I'd really like to take one every month, but as an entrepreneur, who loves her work and really has a hard time shutting it off, I just cannot even imagine that (yet!). Right now, I schedule them every few months, but I still end up working. Although I love my work, I know that my current habits are out of whack. Rather than beat myself up about it, or simply write the goal down, I am working on creating more time blocks on my calendar so I can remember how important it is to have unscheduled time. As I get more comfortable with that, I am going to shift to taking 1 or two half days (COMPLETELY OFF!). Once I can do that, without working, I will start scheduling these full days. In the meantime - those time blocks matter. they are helping me align myself to my intention. They are reminding me why stepping away is so important. And now, rather than feel overwhelmed by stepping away, I am starting to feel excited for it.

What is a goal that you can break down into smaller steps? How can you celebrate the small wins, even if you are not there yet? Sometimes it's the progress we've already made that gives us the motivation to keep moving ahead, so stack those wins, and go crush it!

Bonus Thought:

My last thought is, visualize your goal as if you have already accomplished it. See the finish line. Different goals require different levels of discipline, but ultimately that goes back to our first point - Know your why, and everything else falls into place. I’m wishing you nothing but the best on your 2025 journey, I’ll certainly continue exploring mine. I’d love to hear what tips and tricks you have to finding motivation, sticking to your goals, and improving your overall habits! Drop a comment below. I can’t wait to hear from you!
